Air Arabia plans to launch China flights shortly

Air Arabia chief executive officer Adel Ali has announced plans to launch flights to China soon. Air Arabia would have been allocated "good" traffic rights for flights to China in the recent bilateral talks between the United Arab Emirates and the Chinese government. While Ali did not want to disclose the destinations Air Arabia plans to serve, Urumqi would be a logical first choice given its relative proximity to the United Arab Emirates allowing Air Arabia to operate to the city non-stop with its fleet of A320-200s.

Air Arabia in talks with Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier over fleet renewal

Air Arabia CEO Adel Ali says his airline is currently in talks with Airbus, Boeing and Bombardier over their respective A320neo, B737 MAX and CSeries offerings for possible delivery from 2017 onwards. “There’s a team spending a lot of time talking to manufacturers looking at our requirements. We’re hoping that if all goes well, some time in 2014 we’ll be looking at another order of aircraft.” In an interview with ArabianBusiness, Mr Ali stated that the UAE-based LCC would also receive the last of its forty-four A320-200s on order from Airbus in 2016.
Asked about the airline's next planned hubs, he pointed to the strong potential of both Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen and Istanbul Atatürk given their accessibility and strong tourism potential as well as a possible Saudi Arabian hub, where Air Arabia is the "largest foreign low-cost operator". On the issue of new routes, Mr Ali said Central Asia, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and Armenia are among the countries it is targeting though China in particular would would be of key importance. “There’s a big population, they’re travelling more and more, there’s a big Chinese population in this part of the world, in Africa. It’s a growing market and if we don’t take advantage of it then we’re not doing justice to our shareholders.”

a suivre
