Emirates IPO 'in two to three years'
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman of Emirates Airline has said the carrier may be ready to launch an initial public offering in two to three years, Bloomberg has reported. 'Because the market is going towards growth, within two to three years from now would be excellent,' he said, adding that any decision on the matter would rest with the government. In the six months to September, the group's sales fell 13.5% on lower passenger and cargo yields, forcing cost cuts in order to increase earnings

Emirates increases Middle East flights
Emirates Airline has announced plans to launch three more flights per week to Amman, Jordan beginning December 1. The Dubai-based carrier is also adding an extra flight to Doha, Qatar from the same date, bringing the airline's total number of flights per week to Middle Eastern destinations from 197 to 201.

Emirates' A380 to fly to Paris one month early
Emirates Airline has announced that it will serve Paris with the A380 superjumbo from 29th December, one month earlier than planned. The airline had previously announced that the aircraft would head to Paris Charles de Gaulle from 1st February next year, but an operational review, coupled with demand on the route, has led to an earlier introduction, the carrier said. The 489-seat aircraft will be incorporated into Emirates' double daily flights to Paris. It will initially service three of the morning departures from Dubai, becoming daily from 17th January 2010.

Emirates to fly to Tokyo
Emirates Airline has announced plans to launch services to its second destination in Japan with flights to Tokyo beginning March 28, 2010. The carrier, which currently flies daily to Osaka, will fly non-stop to Tokyo five times a week on every Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tokyo will be Emirates' 102nd international destination.

Emirates boss says airline will not be affected by debt crisis

The president of Emirates Airlines said The Dubai business community was 'shocked' by the debt crisis which has struck the emirate, Emirates Airline President Tim Clark told the Sunday Telegraph newspaper. 'We are all a bit shocked by what's happened and the global fall-out of the past 24 hours,' he said. 'But Dubai will navigate itself out of this, as will we. Emirates a ‘bargaining chip’ in Dubai debt crisis?

Emirates Airline has emerged as a possible bargaining chip in Dubai’s attempt to stabilise its debt mountain, reports the Guardian.
Economists at French bank Societe Generale have said Dubai might have to offer Emirates as “collateral” in order to ensure a bailout from neighbour Abu Dhabi.
They suggest this could happen by merging with Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways.

Speaking to Bloomberg.com, Vivek Tawadey, head of credit portfolio strategy at BNP Paribas, said:

“It [Emirates] could be on the table. It is one of Dubai’s crown jewels, it has very strong market reputation and it also acts as a hub between Asia, the Middle East and Europe.”
Emirates is owned by the Investment Corporation of Dubai, which is in turn controlled by the Dubai government, as is Dubai World, which is the source of the current financial crisis.

Both airlines have denied any talk of a merger.

Emirates boss Maurice Flanagan, speaking to Bloomberg, said Dubai is unlikely to sell Emirates to help raise funds or to allow a merger, Flanagan said. The company also has no plans to join any of the global airline alliances.
Etihad said there are “no talks” about a deal with Emirates.

Emirates is one of the world’s few international airlines that is profitable, posting a net profit of £163m after carrying 22.7 million passengers last year.
Markets across the world have stabilised as Dubai World enters into talks to restructure its debt pile

Emirates Airline debt not guaranteed by Dubai Government

According to Dow Jones:

The debts of Emirates Airline, Dubai's most prized company and the biggest customer for the giant Airbus A380 superjumbo, aren't guaranteed by the sheikdom's government, an official at the company said.

"None of our loans or bonds is guaranteed by the government of Dubai," said the spokesman for Emirates in an email to Zawya Dow Jones Thursday.
Dubai's government said this week that it isn't responsible for the $26 billion worth of direct debt it's trying to restructure belonging to one of its largest state-owned companies Dubai World.

Emirates, the Middle East's largest airline and one of Dubai's best assets, has borrowed heavily to build its fleet and challenge the world's leading carriers. The company has 10 loans and bonds maturing by 2013, according to Standard & Poor's.
The company is part of Investment Corporation of Dubai, a giant government-owned holding company set up to house the sheikdom's best assets.

Emirates to begin flights to Amsterdam

DUBAI, U.A.E.: Emirates is to launch flights to Amsterdam from 1st May 2010.
The international airline of the UAE is also promising further new route announcements in the coming months, supported by continuing aircraft deliveries. The blossoming of the airline's 23rd route into Europe will bring much awaited news in The Netherlands. The daily, non-stop service from Dubai will be operated with a combination of 777-200LR and 777-300ER aircraft, boasting a three-class configuration and the newest version of ice, the passenger revered in-flight entertainment system. Emirates, with its exquisite Private Suites, will be the only airline offering First Class accommodation on the route. This is the fourth new destination to be announced this year by the Dubai-based carrier. Durban and Luanda were both launched in October and Tokyo was recently announced with a start date of 28th March 2010. His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline & Group, said: “We are extremely pleased to announce a new service into Europe at this time and I'm sure it's a development that will be welcomed with open arms in The Netherlands. Amsterdam is already an important offline market for Emirates and we know there is significant passenger traffic heading from Amsterdam to Dubai and onto Africa, the Indian Sub-continent, Asia and the Far East." Sheikh Ahmed added: "This is also a major freight hub and one of the world's renowned flower centres. Emirates has served The Netherlands as a freighter destination for fifteen years and currently offers six 747-400 freighter flights a week between Dubai and Amsterdam. The daily passenger flight will allow us to bolster our cargo offering by making use of the belly hold capacity." Starting 1st May next year, EK 145 will leave Dubai each day at 0825hrs and arrive in Amsterdam at 1330hrs. From Amsterdam, EK 146 departs at 1530hrs, arriving in Dubai at 2359hrs. The new European service comes on the back of exclusive lounge openings in Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Manchester and extra frequencies to Rome, building up to a double daily in February. During December, Emirates will take delivery of two further A380s, which will be deployed to Seoul from 14th December and Paris two weeks later. Last month, the carrier announced half year net profits of Dhs 752 million (US$205 million), representing a 165 percent increase compared to Dhs 284 million (US$77 million) for the period ending 30th September 2008. During the latest results period, the airline carried over 13 million passengers, in excess of 700,000 tonnes of cargo and made an estimated direct contribution of Dhs 10 billion (US$2.72 billion) to the UAE economy.

UAE to ink open skies deal with 10 countries

The UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCCA) has said it plans to sign open sky agreements with at least 10 countries in 2010, Khaleej Times has reported. "We will be signing open sky agreements with Australia and Nepal in the first quarter of 2010. Talks are in progress with India and Pakistan also to work out an open sky agreement with them at the earliest,' said Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of GCCA. Al Suwaidi also said that the UAE was in talks with the European Union concerning a horizontal agreement on open sky policies instead of talking to individual member countries.
