New Bruneian LCC, Darussalam Air, eyes budget Umrah market

Darussalam Air (Bandar Seri Begawan) is a proposed new Bruneian LCC whose primary market will focus on the Umrah pilgrimage market. According to the Memorandum of Understanding that was signed setting up the carrier, Bandar Seri Begawan would be the central hub with flights offered to eastern Indonesia, the southern Philippines, parts of China and Indo-China. The initial investment for the project is estimated at USD2billion with "substantial foreign direct investment" being sought. Thus far, it is believed that local Bruneian cooperative, Koperasi Bumiputera Bersatu Berhad (KBBB), the project's main overseer, has also contacted several American and French airlines regarding wide-body aircraft acquisitions.
