Due to the limited landing infrastructure, with no breakwater or mooring facilities at the sea front, new harbour facilities capable of handling construction equipment and fuel supplies were constructed at Rupert's Bay.[29] Fuel transfers between Rupert's Bay and the aerodrome connected by a 14-kilometre haul road are assumed to be by road tanker for 20 years, after which a capital allowance has been made for enlargement of the bulk fuel storage and the installation of a fuel transfer pipeline.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Helena_Airport

“The commencement of flights is an operational readiness issue. Work is continuing in parallel on operational readiness at St Helena airport, including the work that is now underway to manage issues of turbulence and wind shear experienced by the Comair Implementation Flight,” stated the UK CAA. “Every effort is being made to start airport operations at the earliest opportunity. However, safety is paramount and we will not commence commercial operations until we are satisfied with every aspect of airport operations.”

We are working hard to identify an interim flight solution that can land on our second runway (from the south). There is no wind shear on this second runway, but there is a tailwind. We have identified aircraft types that can land in these conditions, and airlines that have such planes – and we are now exploring the specific availability of aircraft with these airlines.”
