FlyValan became Europe’s newest regional carrier on 23 January, the day which saw the airline launch a three times weekly (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays) link from its Genoa (GOA) base to Trieste (TRS). Operating a single 68-seat ATR 72-500, the carrier will face no direct competition on the 396-kilometre Italian domestic sector. Commenting on the launch, Evghenii Zagrebelnii, Commercial Director of FlyValan, said: “We have decided to produce a prudential and progressive entry into the initial capacity offering of FlyValan, starting with this Genoa–Trieste–Genoa route. This is in order to better control and make our quality more efficient. The launch of additional services will be announced in the first instance through the FlyValan website and the airline’s social media channels. We consider it important to make ourselves fully known and appreciated by the Ligurian and Friulian communities in the first instance, on which we count for the success of our undertaking”. While no other routes are presently bookable, the carrier is promoting a service to Brussels on its website, while its route map indicates that the regional operator will also link to Geneva and Zurich from its Genoa base.

FlyValan, società di diritto rumeno basata a Bucarest, opera come marchio commerciale (il cosiddetto marketing carrier), mentre le operazioni di volo saranno realizzate dalla controllata FlyCompass, aerolinea con AOC (Air Operator’s Certificate) e licenza di volo rumeno, di cui FlyValan detiene il 51% delle azioni. Il 49% delle azioni di FlyCompass è invece posseduto da Valan, primaria realtà internazionale nel campo dei servizi per organizzazioni governative quali World Food Program e United Nations, con sede a Chisinau, Moldova.
