Primera Air Scandinavia is mulling launching flights to Montréal Trudeau and either Baltimore Thurgood Marshall or Washington Dulles out of its European bases in order to further establish itself on the low-cost long-haul market, CEO Hrafn Thorgeirsson told Forbes. In the medium-term, the Scandinavian carrier would also potentially launch operations to Africa, the Middle East, and India.

"We're definitely looking at more destinations both in Canada and in America. It would be either Washington, D.C., or Montreal, or perhaps both. Those are the next two that I would expect to come out with a decision on for North America. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw them coming in 2019," Thorgeirsson said.

If the results on those routes fulfil the carrier's expectations, it will consider expanding to Kenya, Gambia, Cape Verde, India and the Gulf region, pending appropriate governmental approvals, he added.

In 2018, the group plans to shift its operations more towards scheduled flights out of its new bases at Birmingham Int'l, London Stansted, and Paris CDG to each of Newark, Boston, and Toronto Pearson. The airline will take delivery of eight A321neos in 2018 to operate these flights. Primera Air has also announced it will enter the UK-Spain market with flights from Birmingham to each of Malaga and Palma Son Sant Joan, as well as from Stansted to each of Alicante and Malaga.

According to Thorgeirsson, initial sales on Primera Air's maiden transatlantic services are promising enough to consider further growth in this market.

Si le trafic transat en mono-couloir ne marche pas**, ils pourront rester sur le trafic local, avec leurs machines A32x et B737

** reste un risque sur des routes ou il y a déjà une offre soutenue après, pour des escales plus secondaires c'est surement l'avenir !

Un peu surprenant pour une Cie qui avait basé son business plan sur du trafic transat en mono couloir nlle génération ( A321) une formule présentée comme économique ... et comme évoqué sur un précédent post plus adaptée a un trafic "secondaire"

Retards des livraisons, oui. Et il semblerait que ça soit parti pour durer toute la saison.

C'est quand même risqué d'annoncer une expansion importante, pour une compagnie de cette taille (petite), avec des avions, qui viennent d'arriver sur le marché et qui souvent ont des retards de livraisons (défaut techniques, pbs de fournisseur,...).

Ils auraient du faire les choses petit à petit.

Apparemment, ils vont opérer en 737Max9. Ca va être chaud sur le plan opérationnel.
Quant au choix de Bruxelles, je suis toujours étonné de voir de nouveaux entrants attaquer des marchés aussi encombrés.

Des 7M9 avec des réservoirs sup..donc pas de problème

J'ai souvent dit que l'arrivée du mono couloir "transat" que ce soit B737MAX ou A321NEOLR allait donner un coup de "neuf" a ce trafic en allant sur des destinations secondaires "province " et que fait Primera Air la 1er compagnie a vraiment se positionner sur ce type de machines ... des destinations principales de "villes capitales" (Paris, Londres et maintenant Bruxelles...) vers des detinations US majeures

Pas de pbl ...sur le papier ça reste tt de mm juste qu'en est il de l'impact sur l'emport pax et fret
La machine 737 MAX avec la plus grande autonomie est le B737 MAX7 mais avec bcp moins de pax qu'un MAX 9

En fait, le Max7 n'est pas si petit. Je pense qu'il est plus proche de l'ancien 737-400 que des 737-300/700
