Iraqi Airways (Baghdad), the national carrier of Iraq, has taken delivery of its first A330-200 becoming a new operator for the type. This will be the first Airbus widebody aircraft to be operated by Iraqi Airways. The carrier already operates two A321 aircraft. A330-202 YI-AQY (msn 1339) was formally handed over on November 30. This aircraft was originally destined for AirAsia X. The airline has been in desperate need of modern aircraft.

Accommodating a two-class configuration of 24 business and 264 economy seats, the aircraft is powered by GE CF6-80 engines and will be deployed on European routes including Germany, Austria and the UK.

Il y aurait aussi un ex 772 d'Air Austral

Iraqi Airways to take B777-200LR not taken up by Air Austral
Iraqi Airways (IA, Baghdad International (BGW)) will be the recipient of the B777-200(LR) (MSN 40993) first flown in March 2012 and then not taken up by financially struggling Air Austral (UU, St. Denis de la Réunion Roland Garros (RUN)). According to a report by Air Journal, the aircraft has been acquired by the government of Iraq which will lease the aircraft to its national carrier. Iraqi Airways has also just taken delivery of its first A330-200 YI-AQY (c/n 1339) at the end of November. It plans to aggressively expand operations now that the legal disputes with Kuwait have been settled. The B777-200(LR) in question had previously been rumoured to be the single aircraft Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare International (ORD)) has sold to Ethiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa Bole International (ADD)) earlier this year but it appears that such reports have been false.

First A320-200 delivered to Iraqi as it prepares Europe operations

Iraqi Airways has added a first ex-Air Berlin A320-200 (c/n 5290) originally delivered to Air Berlin on November 15 of this year. Iraqi Airways has now added the A320-200, A321-200, A330-200 and B777-200(LR) as new aircraft types to its fleet within just a few weeks as part of its preparations to resume scheduled services on routes to countries in Europe and elsewhere it was not previously able to serve until the legal settlement of first Gulf war claims with Kuwait.
