Qatar Airways planning Doha-Athens-New York from 2013
Qatar Airways (QR, Doha International (DOH)) CEO Akbar Al Baker has announced plans on November 28 to launch a non-stop service between Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International (ATH) and New York John F. Kennedy International (JFK) from 2013 with further details to be made public at a later stage. It is expected that the flights will originate and terminate at the carrier's homebase in Doha and that Qatar Airways will make use of fifth freedom rights between Greece and the United States. Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International (ATL)) currently operates a daily seasonal B767-300ER service between Athens and JFK between May and October.

"A daily New York service will also be increased to three flights a day, with the addition of links via cities in Eastern and Western Europe."
