FASTJET
Pan-African budget carrier FastJet has unveiled its livery one week before tickets go on sale.
The Stelios Haji-Ioannou-backed airline has taken delivery of three Airbus A319s and will launch operations later this month from its first base in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
A second east African base in Nairobi, Kenya will follow shortly after, with two west African bases in Accra, Ghana and Luanda, Angola due to launch in 2013.

Pan-African low-cost carrier FastJet is gearing up to launch operations in November from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and "aspires" to have a fleet of 40 aircraft by the end of 2016.
The airline, which is being funded by London-based investment firm Rubicon with backing from EasyJet founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou's EasyGroup, will launch with two 156-seat ex-EasyJet A319s in November. It has memoranda of understanding with a lessor for a further two A319s and will announce its initial routes when tickets go on sale in October, says FastJet chief commercial officer Richard Bodin.

FastJet, the new pan-African low-cost carrier backed by Stelios Haji-Ioannou, will launch operations in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in early November and plans to expand its fleet size to up to 15 Airbus A319s within the first year of operations.
The airline's chief executive Ed Winter says that east African governments have been sympathetic to the carrier's arguments against taxation. "We've shown them that a reduction in the tax - and the stimulation of demand and the overall size of the market - will cause a rapid increase in the net revenues for government," he explains. "But it needs a bit of a leap of faith for governments to actually reduce taxes."
FastJet's second base in Nairobi, Kenya will follow shortly after Tanzania, while its two west African bases - in Accra, Ghana and Luanda, Angola - will be launched in 2013.
The airline already has air operators' certificates (AOCs) in the four countries due to its takeover of Fly540, which operates a predominantly turboprop fleet and will be gradually wound down as FastJet's A319s arrive. It has also benefited from linking up with locally based Lonrho Aviation.

A peine en piste, déjà des soupirants
Fastjet chief executive Ed Winter has confirmed that the pan-African carrier is in talks with Dubai-based Emirates Airline over a possible future partnership.
"Talks are at an early stage but this represents a great opportunity for both parties," he says in a statement.
Winter's remarks come after the Kenyan press quoted Jean-Luc Grillet, Emirates' senior vice-president commercial Africa, as saying that the Dubai flag carrier is "willing to work with Fastjet".
"It is an independent carrier, and that makes our work easy," Grillet had told Business Daily.
Fastjet launched domestic Tanzanian operations on 29 November, deploying the first of three Airbus A319s at Dar es Salaam's Julius Nyerere airport.

Fastjet readies launch of first international flight
Source: Flightglobal
Fastjet expects to launch its first international flights to Uganda, South Africa and the Comoros "in the next few weeks".
The Stelios Haji-Ioannou-backed carrier began operating domestic Tanzanian services from Dar es Salaam to Mwanza and Kilimanjaro in November 2012.
Entebbe in Uganda, Johannesburg in South Africa, and Moroni in the Comoros Islands are now expected to become the first international destinations, it says in a statement.
Fastjet had previously identified Nairobi and Mombasa in Kenya, Kigali in Rwanda, and Juba in South Sudan as routes of interest.
The company initially planned to open a second operating base in Nairbo in the first quarter of 2013. But it expedited plans for a South African base after negotiating a potential takeover of Johannesburg-based 1time Airline, which is in provisional liquidation.
Its goal of becoming a point-to-point pan-African carrier also envisages the launch of two west African bases in Accra, Ghana and Luanda, Angola.

Re: FASTJET
Listed airline Comair, which operates British Airways flights and low-cost carrier Kulula, says UK-based low-cost carrier Fastjet is using its bid to acquire 1time to get international route rights into SA without having to follow the standard bilateral route licence application process.

Re: FASTJET
Canada-based Avmax Aircraft Leasing has written to FastJet aying it was removing the registration of three planes leased by its Tanzanian operation. The trio of aircraft, flying under the Fly540 brand, have allegedly run up unpaid leasing and maintenance bills of almost $2m (£1.3m).
