Domestic private airline, Jet Airways, has signed a code-share agreement and network-wide frequent flyer partnership with African air-carrier, Kenya Airways.

Under the code-share agreement, which comes into effect from today, Jet Airways will place its code on Kenya Airways' daily services between Mumbai and Nairobi, a press release said here.

The frequent flier programme would, however, be effective from July 22, the release said, adding it allows Jet Privilege members to earn Tier Points, Tier JPMiles & Tier Bonus JPMiles when booked to fly on the Jet Airways-marketed and Kenya Airways-operated codeshare flights.

In addition, effective from July 22, the frequent flyer partnership will also allow the programme members of both airlines to earn and redeem miles on the entire network of the other airline, the release said.

KENYA Airways has tripled its flights into Ndola from twice a week because of increased demand from the Copperbelt Province.

Speaking in Lusaka during the launch of 2010 Pride Club Promotion, a programme that recognises and rewards travel consultants in Zambia, airline country manager Rose Kiseli said business in Zambia is thriving as travellers are increasing.

Last September, Kenya Airways introduced the Ndola-Nairobi route, operating twice a week.
“The airline will from August 6, 2010 operate six flights weekly. The increased frequency is pegged to the increased demand on the route. It is also a deliberate effort by the airline to offer customers flexibility and convenient connections,” she said.

Ms Kiseli said starting this July, the airline has increased flights into Zambia.
She said a year ago, the airline only had 14 flights into Zambia, which have now been increased to 21.
She attributed the increase to the launch of the Ndola-Nairobi route.

On the Lusaka route, Ms Kiseli said double frequency was being restored in phases as the economy recovers from the 2008 recession.

“After the recession, we reduced some of our night flights into Lusaka, and in phases we have started bringing back some of our night flights. So, we will have double daily flights into Lusaka and six flights into Ndola next month,” she said.

Commenting on the 2010 Pride Club Promotion, Ms Kiseli said the promotion is meant to appreciate travel agents for their contribution to the airline industry.

She challenged local travel agencies to come up with travel packages which will help increase air traffic not only for the benefit of tourism, but other business sectors as well.
She commended local travel agencies for conforming to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) standards in their business operations.
She said it is important that travel agencies strive to acquire IATA certification to raise their company profiles.

National flag carrier Kenya Airways announced today that it was boosting its domestic and short haul regional services with an additional aircraft, a Boeing 737-300. The equipment registered as 5Y-KYM has been leased from KLM. It will initially be used primarily to boost the services on the Nairobi-Mombasa route.
african aviation newsSpeaking while taking delivery of the aircraft Kenya Airways Chief Operating Officer, Bram Steller explained that as of now the aircraft spotted a blue fuselage with ‘Kenya Airways’ brand presented in white typeface over the next two months. The plane would be fully rebranded to Kenya Airways colours after the initial two months of service.

“Due to high demand on these routes, our passengers will use the new aircraft with the temporary blue outside body colours. I wish to reassure them that within the next two months the aircraft will spot the official Kenya Airways branding and colours,” he explained noting that the painting process and full conversion ordinarily took about few months to complete.

He noted that adding the plane was in line with Kenya Airways strategy to increase the level of efficiency on the domestic and regional services including offering passengers more choice of flying times and frequency.

This exciting development comes in the wake of Kenya Airways ordering for two Embraer 190 aircraft which are expected to be delivered early next year. It also follows closely on the recent expansion of the Embraer fleet to five after the airline took delivery of two additional aircraft last month boosting its fleet to a total 28 aircraft.

Steller noted that the airline was keenly pursuing a fleet expansion plan that will support its route network growth especially in the African region, with new destinations as such as Luanda in Angola next week.

“With Nairobi fast growing as the East and Central African aviation hub, we expect a profound growth in demand for Kenya Airways as the hub carrier to open up more new cities and increase frequencies on the existing ones with more flights,” he pointed out.

Oui, il y a environ un an le CEO avait déjà envisagé de commander des A330. La compagnie est obligé de loue des 767. Le dernier en date est arrivé en mars 2010, ex Alitalia.

Kenya Airways has announced its expansion into Australia through a new code share deal with Qantas, the Australian carrier.

Under the agreement, Kenya Airways will code share services between Bangkok and Sydney, while Qantas will code share those between Bangkok and Nairobi.

KQ Group managing director Titus Naikuni said the partnership would enable its customers reach more destinations in Australia, while also making it possible for Qantas passengers to reach KQ’s 41 destinations in Africa.

“Kenya Airways seeks to strengthen its presence in Australia by offering better connection options to its passengers from Africa, and our association with Qantas gives us an opportunity to offer our customers a seamless connection to and from Australia.”

Qantas Airlines Commercial officer Rob Gurney said the alliance would give Qantas clients access to the exciting African tourism market.

Les choses se sont arrangées avec Boeing. KQ confirme les Dreamliners.

Kenya Airways finalises 787 order, agrees new delivery dates
By Kerry Reals

Kenya Airways has finalised the order it placed with Boeing in 2006 for nine 787-8s plus four options and agreed on a new delivery schedule, after previously threatening to cancel the agreement in irritation over the delays to the programme.

The carrier had originally been scheduled to take delivery of its first 787 in October 2010, but now says it expects the aircraft to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Kenya Airways ordered six 787-8s in March 2006 and, nine months later, followed this with an order for another three.

The airline today said it had re-affirmed its intention to exercise options on four additional 787s after the initial nine aircraft have been delivered.

Kenya Airways chief executive Titus Naikuni says the carrier is pleased that "despite the delay experienced in the 787 programme, [Boeing has] committed to the timelines that we have now signed on".

The carrier last September said it was considering cancelling the order and was looking into negotiations with Airbus.

The 787s will be used to replace Kenya Airways' ageing Boeing 767 fleet. The carrier has not listed an engine selection for the 787s.

Kenya Airways plans to double its fleet in the next five years as part of a 10-year plan aimed at extending its network to every African nation, its chief executive said on Tuesday.

The airline, 26 percent owned by Air France-KLM , aims to connect all African travellers to the rest of the world through its Nairobi hub.

"Our strategy has been to grow in Africa, try and get in all capital cities in Africa and also increase frequencies... We are looking at doubling our fleet in the next five years," Titus Naikuni told a news conference.

Kenya Airways, which is one of the largest carriers in Africa, along with Ethiopian Airlines and South African Airways, operates a fleet of around 27 planes, made up of Boeing aircraft and seven Embraer jets.

Naikuni spoke after signing a confirmation deal with Brazil's Embraer for 10 E-190 jets, due for delivery between July next year and 2013.

The deal was first announced during the Paris Airshow this year, when Kenya Airways offered a letter of intent.

The Brazilian plane maker has seen steady growth in orders from African carriers, which demand a smaller optimum capacity of 70-120 passengers per plane.

The value of the deal between Kenya Airways and Embraer, which has sold 149 planes to 47 operators in 19 African countries thus far, was not disclosed.

Kenya Airways signed a deal for the purchase of nine 787-8 Dreamliner planes with Boeing in April this year to replace its ageing fleet and expand routes and flight frequencies.

It is in the process of seeking regulatory approval to raise capital to fund the acquisition of the new planes.
