Delta Airlines and Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd. have reached an agreement for a new joint venture that will create an expanded trans-Atlantic network and enhance competition between the U.K. and North America, offering greater benefits for customers traveling on those routes.

As part of this joint venture agreement, Delta will invest $360 million in Virgin Atlantic, acquiring a 49 percent stake currently held by Singapore Airlines. Virgin Group and Sir Richard Branson will retain the majority 51 percent stake and Virgin Atlantic Airways will retain its brand and operating certificate.

Se transforme en bon samaritain à Monrovia

Message par UY707 »

Delta partners with Liberian Ministry of Transport to develop GPS approach procedures for RIA.
US Carrier, Delta Air Lines is continuing to work closely with the Liberian Minister of Transport to develop and fine tune GPS Approach procedures to help improve the safety and reliability of aircraft operations at Monrovia's Roberts International Airport. As part of its ongoing commitment to Liberia and to the safety of its people, Delta has developed these GPS Approach procedures specifically for Liberia using U.S. Federal Aviation Administration standards.

GPS Approach procedures work by shifting navigational reliance from ground based instruments to aircraft based equipment which utilizes space-based GPS systems for navigation.

Delta is the only airline to offer direct service between Liberia and the United States and operates three weekly services to the U.S. via Accra. In order to improve overall safety at Robert's International, Delta began testing GPS approach technology in 2011 with the first successful test flight into Monrovia coming on Tuesday, June 19, 2012.
“Delta is delighted to partner with the Government of Liberia to upgrade the country's airspace technology by improving its overall safety and reliability,” said Bobby Bryan, Delta's commercial manager for West and East Africa.
“Safety is Delta's number one priority and this new GPS Approach will help ensure the safety of Roberts International benefiting all airlines flying into Liberia, as well as help to build further links between Liberia and the rest of the world.”
Once adopted by the Liberian Government, these procedures will be available to any airline with properly equipped aircraft, opening up Roberts International to more international carriers.

The airline, in partnership with Air France-KLM, opened a dedicated terminal at Roberts International Airport in March 2012. Terminal B, which is exclusively for use by Delta and Air France-KLM, was jointly funded by the two airlines with the support of the Liberian Authorities.

Delta has signed a codeshare agreement with Transavia, a subsidiary of KLM, that will expand the choice of onward destinations offered by Delta from the United States via its hub at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.

Once government approvals have been received, customers flying on any of Delta's 19 peak-day flights from the U.S. to Amsterdam will be able to connect with Delta marketed code onto 10 Transavia destinations, including four destinations not currently offered by Delta through its existing trans-Atlantic airline partnerships. These new codeshare points include: Seville and Alicante, Spain; Thessaloniki, Greece; and Marrakech, Morocco. Six points already served by Delta will receive additional schedule connection opportunities with Transavia, including Barcelona, Malaga, Valencia and Ibiza, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; and Casablanca, Morocco.

"Partnering with Transavia will enable Delta to expand its network to include more leisure destinations, primarily in the Mediterranean region, that are popular with U.S. tourists during both summer and winter months," said Nat Pieper, Delta's senior vice president Europe, Middle East and Africa. "This agreement complements our already extensive network of codeshare services offered via Amsterdam with our partner KLM and opens the possibility of Delta being able to codeshare to additional Transavia destinations in the future."
