Expansion of long-haul destinations to Japan, Alaska and Canada - Edelweiss Air takes off into summer 2011 at full throttle.
Next summer, growth and innovation are the watchwords of Edelweiss Air - More airplanes, modernised interiors, greater comfort and a marked expansion of the airline’s range of travel destinations. And all this in genuine Swiss quality! Edelweiss Air is clearly going that extra mile to offer «better flying» for all. New, state-of-the-art long-haul aircraft - type Airbus A330 Edelweiss Air is focussing on innovation and state-of-the-art technology, with a brand new long-haul Airbus A330-300 of the latest generation being added to its fleet in spring 2011 and an A330-200 converted to meet the needs of the leisure-flight market.
Both aircraft offer a considerably improved business class with a seat pitch of 48 inches and a modern in-flight entertainment system. The A330-300 has 36 seats in business class and 296 seats in economy class; the A330-200 has 30 business and 255 economy class seats.
Greater comfort in the Airbus A320
This past summer, Edelweiss Air’s three Airbus A320 were refurbished with new, lighter and more comfortable seats. To optimise mutual flight schedules, the A321/320 flights of SWISS will serve Edelweiss Air leisure-flight destinations. In turn, Edelweiss Air’s A320 will operate on the SWISS flight network.

Second rotation to Japan Four years ago, Edelweiss Air began flying Japanese tourists to Switzerland. To expand this offer, Edelweiss Air will begin operating a direct flight to Narita (Tokyo) every Saturday. This Edelweiss Air flight will give European customers a chance to discover Japan.
Four destinations in the Caribbean
Edelweiss Air will be operating two weekly flights to Punta Cana and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, Varadero in Cuba and Cancun in Mexico. Direct flight to the Maldives at the weekend The fastest connection to the island paradise of the Maldives is still Edelweiss Air’s direct flight which departs from Zurich to Male every Saturday.
Kenya combined with Kilimanjaro in summer too
Following a promising start in winter 2010/11, this combination will be continued in summer 2011, from July until October. The flight to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and Mombasa on the coast of Kenya can also be combined with SWISS scheduled flights to Nairobi and Dar Es Salam.
Focus on Canada and Alaska
From late May until mid-September, Edelweiss Air will be offering three flights a week to Canada and Alaska. In addition to the flight to Calgary and Vancouver, there will be a direct flight to Vancouver. A new flight service will also be provided to Whitehorse and Anchorage in Alaska so that these two destinations can once again be reached directly from Zurich. All flights are inter-combinable.
Our medium-haul highlights in summer 2011:
24 times to Greece, with Samos and Chania as new destinations Edelweiss Air, with 24 weekly flights, has the largest offer to Greece. This offer is being expanded to include flights to Chania on the island of Crete and Samos, as well as weekend flights to Corfu and Zakynthos. In addition, Edelweiss Air will further increase flight frequencies to Crete. For the first time, there will be a daily flight to this popular holiday island. The Saturday flight, which departs at 10.45h, is a top product operated with the comfortable A330-300. Flights to Crete, Rhodes and Cos are also available from Geneva.
Rotation to Cyprus
With flights every Monday, Wednesday Friday and Saturday, Edelweiss Air offers a comprehensive choice with flexible lengths of stay.
With the A330-300 to Antalya – and to Dalaman as a new option Flights to Antalya in southern Turkey are operated on five days of the week. The Airbus A330-300 is used for the Friday flight; the Saturday flight is with a double rotation. Besides Bodrum, Dalaman is being added to Edelweiss Air’s offer. Both flights are on Saturdays.
Plenty of additional flights to the Red Sea
Throughout the summer, Edelweiss Air will operate several flights to the destinations Sharm-el-Sheik, Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Luxor. During the spring and autumn holidays, when there is high demand, the two A330-300 aircraft will be used at weekends.
Saturday flights to Tunisia
Flights to Enfidha-Monastir and Djerba are operated on Saturdays. During the high season, Djerba is served by an additional flight which departs on Mondays.
Growing demand for flights to Marrakesh
Having already boosted its offer to Marrakesh in the winter season, Edelweiss Air’s summer schedule will include two weekly flights to this trendsetting city. The Saturday flight will operate via Agadir, adding Morocco’s coast as a further destination.
Four destinations in Italy
Two weekly flights to Catania on the island of Sicily and one weekly flight each to Olbia and Cagliari as well as to Lamezia Terme in Calabria enrich Edelweiss Air’s schedule in summer 2011.
Double daily to Mallorca
From April until October, Edelweiss Air will offer a daily morning flight to Palma de Mallorca, thus complementing SWISS’s daily afternoon flights. This increases the frequency to two flights per day. All Edelweiss Air and SWISS flights can be combined, enabling Edelweiss Air and SWISS to offer the most complete and flexible flight schedule to Palma de Mallorca. Flights to the neighbouring islands of Ibiza and Menorca are operated on Sundays.
Eight flights to four Canary Islands
The choice of flights to the Canary Islands has also been expanded. In addition to the three weekly flights to Las Palmas, Tenerife and Fuerteventura will be served with two flights per week. For the first time in summer 2011, Edelweiss Air will also offer flights to the holiday island of Lanzarote.
Popular flights to southern Spain and Portugal
Two flights a week will be operated to Faro on the Portuguese Algarve and one flight a week to Jerez de la Frontera on the southern coast of Spain.
Split and Varna in good demand
Split in Croatia and Varna in Bulgaria were included in Edelweiss Air’s schedule for the first time in summer 2010. Following high demand, flights to these destinations will be continued in summer 2011 as well. Split is flown to on Saturdays and Varna on Fridays.
Largest choice of flights to Pristina and Skopje
In summer 2011, Edelweiss Air will continue to offer two flights a day to Pristina. Due to high demand, an A321 with 200 seats will be used for the morning flight. There are also two weekly flights departing from Geneva. Edelweiss Air operates four flights a week to Skopje.
