New ULCC, Jetlines, to corner the West Canadian market
Jetlines (Vancouver Int'l) is a new Ultra Low Cost Carrier (ULCC) that plans to follow the in footsteps of other ULCC such as Ryanair (FR, Dublin Int'l), easyJet (U2, London Luton) and Lion Airlines (JT, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) and corner the West Canadian travel market. Backed by USD126million in funding being sourced by Vancouver’ Salman Partners Inc. and Robson Capital Markets Advisory, the startup intends to launch with two A319-100s in the fall of 2014, before expanding to 16 aircraft by 2017 using a fleet of A319s and A320s. The carrier's investor briefing says it is run by Jim Scott, David Solloway and Dix Lawson and has already applied to the Canadian Transportation Agency for an Air Operator's certificate. It claims to have also negotiated landing slots at Vancouver Int'l and other key airports in Western Canada in anticipation of its launch.
