Passengers
In April 2009 Brussels Airport welcomed 1,520.900 passengers, a decrease by 5,4% compared to April 2008.
This decrease is not as strong as the decrease in the first quarter, but till the end of April, the total passenger evolution for 2009 is still at -13,1%. The low cost and long haul markets performed strongly, and leisure travel (easter holiday) figures were good too. On the contrary, intra-European business travel in April has strongly decreased, compared to the figures of April 2008.
Cargo
Freight volumes decreased with 40% in April. This result is better than the decrease figures of the first quarter of 2009. Because the departure of part of DHL’s huge operation from Brussels to another airport took place over one year ago, its effect no longer shows in the freight results for April. The performance of Belly-load freight on passenger aircraft is somewhat better than the evolution of full freight aircraft.
