La compagnie se veut la remplaçante de Malev
Sólyom Hungarian's first of 6 leased jets due in Budapest in August
Sólyom Hungarian Airways (Budapest) has signed a leasing contract with an unspecified company in London for six aircraft (likely A320s), the first of which is due in Budapest before August 20, company CEO József Vágó has announced. Backed by Omani and Emirati investors, but run by three Hungarians, Sólyom has already set up shop at Budapest and plans to begin selling tickets in August. Mr Vágó said the launch of operations did not depend on his company, but rather on the Hungarian civil aviation authority (Polgári Légiközlekedési Hatóság - PLH) and the expediency with which it processed his airline's application. Vágó also confirmed that Sólyom has submitted an offer to purchase the Aeroplex Central European Air Vehicle Technology Centre Ltd. and Malev (MA, Budapest) Ground Handling Company, but their owner, the Hungarian state, has yet to respond.

Sólyom Hungarian outlines its fleet, network plans
Sólyom Hungarian Airways is planning to launch operations with six leased B737-500s using a regular airline business model initially, as opposed to a Low Cost one. The Hungarian civil aviation authority has "promised" that an Air Operator's certificate would be issued before August 15. In a news conference held in Budapest this past week, the startup said the fleet, currently positioned in the United Kingdom, would be expected to begin arriving in Budapest from August 18 on and will operate charter flights before switching to scheduled operations. Thus far, 31 destinations have already been planned including six major European cities. Towards the end of the year, Sólyom (Hungarian for "Hawk") will take delivery of two Regional Jets, set to grow to twenty over the next three years. Twenty A320s and ten widebodies (likely A330s and/or A340s) are also on the cards with a first A330 to hopefully be in the skies by Summer 2014 according to the airline.
