Au sujet de OnejetOne:
Local airline OneJetOne is set to take to the skies in August, anchoring itself as a low cost outfit in Kenya.
The airline is to begin its operations to Kisumu and Mombasa in what is expected to stir the domestic air fare competitions.
According to managing director, Mr Arjun Ruzaik, the firm will charge passengers based on revenue and yield management.
“Why should a person flying minus luggage pay the same as another with over 20 kilogrammes of luggage? Our model will be based on ensuring that you only pay for what you need the seat for and the extras depending on what you carry,” Mr Ruzaik told the Nation in an interview.
The firm had postponed its inaugural flights in the past year at least twice, citing delays in the delivery of its aircraft.
However, this was pushed to March this year and now said to be in August.
The new date Mr Ruzaik said, was occasioned by the licensing procedures that have taken long. The certification process is being conducted by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and is nearly complete.
Amendments
“We are 90 per cent done with the process, what remains are amendments that we are working on. The last stage will require a demonstration to the authorities when we make the deliveries of the aircraft,” he said
The airline is currently in discussion with three leasing companies for its preferred aircraft A320-200.
The flight will have a seat capacity of 150, which might be too ambitious for domestic routes.
With the backing of Chinese investors bringing in Sh3.2 billion into the business, the firm is expressing optimism as a carrier in the Kenyan skies. A commercial bank, Southern Credit has also granted them Sh128 million for the business operations.
Last year the company ran into turbulence over a tender awarded to it by the Kenya Airports Authority for use of the Embakasi Terminal.
