World's largest airport to open on June 27
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports Co has said that Al Maktoum International will open on June 27, Emirates Business has reported. The company is in advanced talks with airlines, both passenger and cargo, across the globe to start operations from the new airport, he said. The new airport, which will be the largest in the world, is part of the $33bn Dubai World Central (DWC) development in Jebel Ali.
Emirates seeks more access to Canada
Emirates Airline has launched a lobbying campaign in Canada aimed at convincing transport authorities to allow it to add more flights to the North American nation, the Ottawa Citizen has reported. Emirates wants to increase the number of its flights between Dubai and Toronto from three times a week to as much as twice a day, as well as adding daily service to and from airports in Vancouver and Calgary.
Dubai airport sees cargo, passenger traffic rise
Dubai Airports Co has said that cargo volumes transported through Dubai airport rose 31.5% in January, compared to a year ago, while passenger traffic increased 17%. The total number of passengers passing through the airport in January stood at 3.9 million, against 3.3 million for the same month in 2009. Freight volumes were up to 171.5 thousand tonnes, from 130.4 thousand tonnes a year ago. The increase in traffic and volumes were attributed to a rise in economic activity and the expansion of Emirates Skycargo

MIA : “strong for leisure and other economy class traffic, but limited for corporate travellers”
SEA : “interesting destination with a number of large corporations based there, such as Starbucks and Microsoft, and it had potential for good cargo demand and feeder services to the Alaska market”
> Du côté d’Etihad : “In our planning in the next five years, we would expect to fly to at least two to three more US destinations, such as Washington DC, and either into Los Angeles or San Francisco. And also on the drawing board is South America.”

Emirates orders 32 more Airbus A380 superjumbos with a list value of $11.5 billion
Dubai-based Emirates airline announced Tuesday it has ordered another 32 A380 superjumbo jets from Airbus, giving the European planemaker a boost as it strives to make financial gains on its giant plane.
The latest order, with a list price of $11.5 billion, means Emirates has now signed up for a total of 90 A380s. It said the planes would be delivered by 2017.
"This is the single largest 380 order ever," Airbus CEO Tom Enders said after the deal was signed at the Berlin Air Show. He described the order as a "sign of confidence in the 380 and in Airbus."
Emirates received its first A380 in July 2008 and now has 10 of the planes. It already had 58 on order.
The order "affirms Emirates' strategy to become a world leading carrier and to further establish Dubai as a central gateway to worldwide air travel," said Emirates chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
Airbus' chief operating officer, John Leahy, said the company now has 234 firm orders for the superjumbo, with 30 planes already delivered and a total of 17 customers.
He did not say how many more orders Airbus might receive this year, but said he is "in negotiations with several airlines around the world" on A380s.
Early A380 orders were hit by lengthy delays. Airbus has been struggling to ramp up production of the A380 because the cabins of the hulking plane require greater customization than other plane models.
Leahy said Airbus managers are "targeting to break even by 2015" on the project.
He was cautious about future prospects for a stretched version of the plane, although he said airlines have expressed an interest.
"We have to ramp up production on this airplane; it is clearly more complex to build than we had anticipated," he said.
"Let's get the airplane ramped up to the level we had originally talked about, let's get the cost of building the airplane down to the level we had originally talked about, and then the nice logical third step would be let's talk about further developments," Leahy added.

Re: Emirates
Good news !
